Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, Freedom Adventures’ representative will greet you. You will be dropped off at the hotel, and after checking in, you could walk around Thamel, a popular tourist hub in Kathmandu. Observing the market and some souvenir shopping will freshen your mind. Dinner at an excellent restaurant will give you a taste of Nepali cuisine. Your trek guide will brief you about the trip and the next day’s sightseeing trip. Overnight at Kathmandu.
After a lovely breakfast in the morning, we start guided sightseeing tour to some most historical and spiritual attraction in Kathmandu. We will be visiting some landmarks which are considered as World Heritage Sites. This Sightseeing will be fully informative and historical. We start our day from Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples, followed by Bouddanath, the ancient Buddhist Stupa is one of the largest in the world. Following our day to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, is the plaza in front of the royal place of old Bhaktapur. In the afternoon we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and explore the old royal place complex which was built on the 14th century. After we finish sightseeing we follow the local market called Ason, crossing the busy local area we reach our hotel at Thamel. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Early in the morning we have a flight to Nepalgunj, western part of Nepal. The city is situation on the flat or Terai part of Nepal. This will be our transit point for our flight the next day to Juphal, Dolpo (Flights to Dolpo take place only in the morning, so we stay in Nepalgunj for a day). Overnight at Nepalgunj.
|Day 4||Flight from Nepalgunj to Jhupal (2475m/8120ft), drive to Sulighat - 1hrs, trek to Kagbeni (2413m/7917ft) - 2hrs|
We take an early morning flight to Jhupal, which is a beautiful town located in the foothills of Dolpo. Upon landing, we start walking downward to the riverside and follow the river upto Dunai, the capital of Dolpo.Overnight at Kagbeni
As the trail goes further our path goes by tropical forest, at Shangta we cross bridge over Phoksundo river we begin to Chhepka and than to Rechi. Overnight at Rechi.
We trek in the opposite direction of the river which flow in toward Amchi hospital, Amchi hospital is the place where patients get cured by Amchi (traditional doctors) using the herbal medicine found in Dolpo, Our route than continues to Ringmo village with flat roofted stone houses with lots of mani walls.Overnight at Phoksundo Lake.
Today is the most special day of trek as we hike towards the main attraction of the trek which is Phoksundo lake. There we can see caravan of yaks moving towards the Tibetan borders which is around four hour from there. The famous Hollywood movie ‘Caravan’ is shot mostly in this location. We also visit nearby monastery. Overnight at Phoksundo.
It’s the beautiful walk today as we left behind the lake behind and climbs along the narrow trail cut on cliff vertically straight above Phoksundo lake. Before reaching to campsite at Sallagiri we pass beautiful forest of pine.Overnight at Sallagiri.
Today is the adventurous trek as we ascend up towards narrow defile of kyaksa river, the walk to Base camp (4500m). we cross wide valey and further reaches to massive rock slab. Overnight at Nangda la base camp.
Shey gompa which is one of the most sacred place and the nearby ‘Crystal mountain’. After crossing Nang la pass we finally enter the real land of Dolpo . From the top of Nang la we can experience the beautiful view of Crystal mountain and landscape of Dolpo, A red chorten marks the entrance of Shey gompa, Every dragon year according to Tibetan calendar that comes in every 12 years there occur a grand festival. Overnight at Shey Gompa.
The trail goes up and down with small passes which will interesting for us as we have to pass small hills. On the left hand side we see the valley of mugu khola. There is a monastery located in toda which we will visit after we reach Tota. Overnight at Tota.
Today is interesting, but tough for the knee because the trail goes around 45m up hill than all the way down until Bijer. It is a big village with 87 individual household which is influence with bon Buddhism. Explore village, French school visit. Overnight at Bhijer.
Today we pass through a cheese factory and we can taste some local cheese and the trail goes gradual until we reach the south east camp.Over night camp and preparation for Neng la pass. Overnight at Neng La high camp.rnrn
The trail begins with the uphill till the Neng la top from where we can see the panoramic view of Annapurna range in the east with the Dhaulagiri range and Upper mustang on the east. Saldang which is culturally Tibetan region where some of the scene from the famous Hollywood movie Himalaya was filmed. Overnight at Saldang.
After exploring saldang we walk gradual up and pass through some villages and gompa, than after passing by the Rapa gompa we follow the jig jag trail until we reach Rakyo. Overnight in Rakyo.
From Rakyo to Dharsumna dhovan we walk challenging uphill which takes 4hrs and will be the best way for the next pass. Than the trail descend down after dovan with the gradual walk till campsite. Overnight in Jyanta la high camp.
|Day 17||Trek from Jyanta la high camp to Dho Tarap (3944m/12,940ft) via Jyanta la pass (4700m/15,420ft) - 7hrs|
Today is another big day for us as we have to pass 4700m pass which is challenging but all the difficulty fade away, as we reach Dho tarap village because it is one of the biggest village in this region with communication facility and a major junction for visitor. Overnight at Dho tarap.
Today we decend towards a wide valley which eventually narrows into a gorge. we walk along juniper trees following Tarap khola and small stream joining Tarap river. On the way we seeherds of blue sheep. We will make our overnight camp in medows known as Lawalpani. Overnight at Lawalpani.
We continue walking down the gorge of Tarap river. The most interesting part of the day is that the valley becomes so narrow in a deep gorge. The trail is thrilling as some places there is no trace of a path than after we follow the trail that takes us to village of lalberi. Our trail passes through a lush forest and gorges and follow the river again. Tarakot is a village where is a gompa which lies about 8km east of village, we can visit it. Overnight at Tarakot.
The trek on the trail behind bheri river. The trail moves west on a gradual trail and reach Dhunai from where we take jeep to Jhupal. We follow dusty jeep trail passing some villages on the way. Overnight at Jhupal.
On an early morning scenic flight, we head back to Nepalgunj. Upon landing, we drive to Bardia National Park, which takes about 2 hours. Overnight in Bardia National Park.
We can enjoy cultural activities like visiting the village and a tharu dance programs. Overnight in Bardia National Park.
Major activities like jungle safari, elephant safari, bird watching , elephant breeding centre, crocodile breeding. If we are lucky enough we will have glimpse of tiger crawling through the bushes. Overnight in Bardia National Park.
On a 2-hour drive from Bardia National Park to Nepalgunj, we prepare for our flight to Kathmandu. The flight is scenic and the mountains can be seen glistening form the left side of the airplane. Don’t forget to click some nice pictures! Overnight in Kathmandu.
