Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, Freedom Adventures’ representative will greet you. You will be dropped  off at the hotel, and after checking in, you could walk around Thamel, a popular tourist hub in Kathmandu. Observing the market and some souvenir shopping will freshen your mind. Dinner at an excellent restaurant will give you a taste of Nepali cuisine. Your trek guide will brief you about the trip and the next day’s sightseeing trip. Overnight at Kathmandu.

After a lovely breakfast in the morning, we start guided sightseeing tour to some most historical and spiritual attraction in Kathmandu. We will be visiting some landmarks which are considered as World Heritage Sites. This Sightseeing will be fully informative and historical. We start our day from Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples, followed by Bouddanath, the ancient Buddhist Stupa is one of the largest in the world. Following our day to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, is the plaza in front of the royal place of old Bhaktapur. In the afternoon we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and explore the old royal place complex which was built on the 14th century. After we finish sightseeing we follow the local market called Ason, crossing the busy local area we reach our hotel at Thamel. Overnight at Kathmandu.

Early in the morning we have a flight to Nepalgunj, western part of Nepal. The city is situation on the flat or Terai part of Nepal. This will be our transit point for our flight the next day to Juphal, Dolpo (Flights to Dolpo take place only in the morning, so we stay in Nepalgunj for a day). Overnight at Nepalgunj.

We take an early morning flight to Jhupal, beautiful town located in the foothills of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ,than our journey starts from local jeep until Sulighat and after after we start our trekking to the place called Dunnai which is headquater of Dolpo region and have government school and office with private college. Dunnai also have permit check post where we enter our permits and head to Kageni. Overnight in Kageni.

As the trail goes further our path goes by tropical forest,at Shangta we cross bridge over Phoksundo river we begin to Chhepka and than to Rechi. Overnight at Rechi.

We trek in the opposite direction of the river which flow in toward Amchi hospital,Amchi hospital is the place where patients get cured by Amchi (traditional doctors) using the herbal medicine found in Dolpo, our route than continues to Ringmo village with flat roofted stone houses with lots of mani walls. Overnight at Phoksundo.

Today is the most special day of trek as we hike towards the main attraction of the trek which is Phoksundo lake. There we can see caravan of yaks moving towards the Tibetan borders which is around four hour from there. The famous Hollywood movie ‘Caravan’ is shot mostly in this location. We also visit nearby monastery. Overnight at Phoksundo.

It’s the beautiful walk today as we left behind the lake behind and climbs along the narrow trail cut on cliff vertically straight above Phoksundo lake. Before reaching to campsite at Sallagiri we pass beautiful forest of pine. Overnight at Sallagiri.

Today is the adventurous part of the trek as we ascend up towards narrow defile of kyaksa river,the walk to Base camp (4500m). we cross wide valley and further reaches to massive rock slab. Overnight at Nangda la base camp.

Shey gompa which is one of the most sacred place and the nearby ‘Crystal mountain’ . After crossing Nang la pass we finally enter the real land of Dolpo .From the top of Nang la we can experience the beautiful views of Crystal mountain and landscape of Dolpo, A red chorten marks the entrance of Shey gompa, Every dragon year according to Tibetan calendar that comes in every 12 years there occur a grand festival. Overnight at Shey Gompa.

The trail goes up and down with small passes which will interesting for us as we have to pass small hills. on the left hand side we see the valley of mugu khola. There is a monastery located in Tata which is we can visit after we reach Tata. Overnight at Tata.

Today is the interesting but tough for the knee because the trail goes around 45m up hill than all the way down until Bijer. It is a big village with 87 individual household which is influence with bon Buddhism. Explore village, French school visit. Overnight at Bhijer.

Today we pass through a cheese factory and we can taste some local cheese and the trail goes gradual until we reach the south east camp. Over night camp and preparation for Neng la pass. Overnight at Neng La base camp.

The trail begins with the uphill till the Neng la top from where we can see the panoramic view of Annapurna range in the east with the Dhaulagiri range and Upper mustang on the east. Saldang which is culturally a Tibetan region where some of the scene from the famous Hollywood movie Himalaya was filmed . Overnight at Saldang.

After exploring saldang we walk gradual up and pass through some villages and gompa, than after passing by the Rapa gompa we follow the jig jag trail until we reach Rakyo. Overnight at Rakyo.

From Rakyo to Dharsumna dhovan we walk challenging uphill which takes 4hrs and will be the best way to prepare for the next pass.Than the trail decend down after dovan with the gradual walk till Campsite. Overnight at Jyanta la high camp.

Today is another big day for us as we have to pass 4700m pass which is challenging but all the difficulty fade away as we reach Dho tarap village because it is one of the biggest village in this region with communication facility and a major junction for visitor. Overnight at Dho Tarap.

The trail passes through Dhora gompa and some villages following Tarpi khola following up and down trail until we reach chan la basecamp.

Today is the another interesting day for us as we pass Chan la pass which is open in march to December. The trail is tricky at the beginning than gradual down towards Charka bhot. There is a bon monastery in Charka. Overnight at Chan la base camp.nn

The trail goes to the high land with some up and down hills on the way. We pass through dry hill from where we can see across the far distance. We trek up to Nulungsumde and have overnight camp there. Overnight at Nulungsumde kharka. Overnight at Nulungsumde kharka.

The trail ascend which takes us to the first pass Niwar la pass,Today we cross two passes. After crossing the pass we again proceed towards another pass Jungben la then the trail goes down hill up to Ghaldeng Ghuldung. Overnight at Ghaldang Ghuldun Khola camp.

As usual the trail goes up and down but the interesting part is the change in the landscape which is the main attraction of the place. Finally after enjoying the views we reach Santa. Overnight at Santa.

We climb the hill behind santa and goes gradual up towards Bhima ala pass than after the pass we descend into Kali Gandaki valley, traversing high cliffs and reach pasture land where is our overnight camp. Overnight at Yak Kharka.

It is a challenging trail of rocks to Jomsom all the way down in a descending trail until Jomsom. Overnight at Jomsom.

After a thrilling trek in the Himalayas, today’s rest day is well deserved! Pokhara has a whole range of activities you can do. You may go on a short hike, relax at a coffee shop sorting out photos from your trip, or go shopping. If you are feeling adventures you can partake in activities like paragliding, ultralight flight or Bungee. Your call!

Pokhara is known for its laid back atmosphere, good food and plenty of day activities. You can go boat in fewa lake or fly on the air, paraglide or ultralight, even more special you can try parahawking where you fly with an eagle guiding your flight trail. If that’s not enough ride on the worlds tallest zipline and Bungee after that.nnYou can see there plenty of things to do so if you are are up for it just tell your guide and he can help book for the activities. In the evening we can enjoy drinks by the lake and dinner after that.  Overnight in Pokhara.

25 minutes on a plane and we reach Kathmandu. You can spend some leisure time reflecting on the trek and doing last-minute shopping in Thamel. We meet up for dinner in the evening and celebrate successful completion of our trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

An amazing trip to the Himalayas concludes on this day. Freedom Adventures’ staff will drop you off at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. Have a safe flight back!
